“Where in our present world does math exist?”

Perhaps this is a question you have asked yourself as you have worked through Mathematics 30-2. The purpose of Module 8 is to give you the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of mathematical concepts and to enable you to see the role that mathematics plays in current-day society.

You will find that Module 8 is different from the seven modules of Mathematics 30-2 you have completed in that there are no lessons. In this module your assessment is a project. The specifics of the assessment are provided in the multimedia piece Module 8: Current Events: Mathematics Research Project.

In this module you will investigate the following question: How is mathematics related to current events or areas of interest?

This project provides you with current real-life situations in which you can apply the strategies and concepts you have encountered in this course. As this is a major project, it is important that you budget an appropriate amount of time for completing this module. Hopefully, when you have completed the project, you will have answered the question, “Where in our present world does math exist?”
