In today’s digital world, technology is everywhere. It is used at school, in homes, and in the workplace. Having a variety of technological skills is an essential part of your skill set. In the work world, businesses often rely on the information spreadsheets can identify to make their businesses more effective or profitable. Businesses also need to be able to present their findings to others in the company. In order to have a competitive edge, it is essential that you have a diverse set of technology related skills.
What is required to complete this project?
To be successful, you will need the following:
- access to a computer with spreadsheet software
(Note: All examples for this module are based on Microsoft Excel 2007.)
- a place to save your work, such as the INF2080 SS2 folder you have already created, a network folder, flash drive, or your desktop
(Note: Discuss this arrangement with your teacher.)
What do I already know?
You have already completed INF1060: Spreadsheet 1 as a prerequisite to this course. You have the basic understanding of spreadsheets and are able to input formulas, create charts, and format data. In this course you will build on what you already know about spreadsheets and develop more advanced skills.
What do I need to do?
This project is comprised of five training rooms:
- Training Room 1: Creating and Manipulating Data
- Training Room 2: Formatting Data and Content
- Training Room 3: Functions and Formulas in Spreadsheets
- Training Room 4: Presenting Data Visually
- Training Room 5: Collaborating and Securing Data
These training rooms are designed to teach you components of Microsoft Excel 2007 spreadsheets. Some parts of the training rooms will be a review of INF1060: Spreadsheet 1. The reason for this is to see how the new concepts in this course tie into the concepts in INF1060. You will most likely complete the review parts quickly and spend more time on the new content presented.
The training rooms are designed to include the following components:
- information regarding when to use and how to produce documents for use at home, school, and work
- demonstrations to learn software features specific to Excel 2007
- practice activities to run through the concepts presented in training rooms, which may be found within the training rooms or the Time to Practise exercises associated with each training room
- opportunities to assess your understanding of the concepts presented in the training room after the completion of Time to Practise exercises
