UNIT 2

EXERCISE

There are three main components of a good exercise program:

  1. Cardiovascular
  2. Strength
  3. Stretching

Cardiovascular exercise helps to keep your heart and bones healthy by increasing your heart and breathing rates and building and maintaining your bone mass and density. Cardiovascular exercise also burns calories and promotes weight control and weight loss.

Strength training increases muscle mass and bone density. With increased muscle mass, your body's metabolic rate increases, allowing you to burn calories more efficiently.

Stretching is the component of exercise that is often overlooked. Stretching allows for full range of motion around your joints and keeps your muscles from shortening and tightening.
