Course Requirements
There are five major components of the course that you must successfully complete in order to earn credit.
First, you must complete all activities, according to your pace guide, and submit them. All of your work should represent your best effort. You are responsible for keeping your work in a safe place. Make sure you complete the assignments sequentially.
Second, you must participate in all of the required Conversation Assessments. These are listed as Activities throughout the course.
Third, you must participate in all of the required discussions. These are listed as Activities throughout the course. More detailed information concerning your requirements for this portion of your grade will be forthcoming.
Fourth, you must take and pass a mid-term exam once you have completed all of the required activities up to Module 5.
Fifth, you must take and pass a final exam once you have completed all of the required activities. Please note that you will need a mark of 50% or better on the final exam in order for us to use the course work towards your final course grade.
Conversation Assessments
Conversation Assessments will check your knowledge of the modules and the work you have submitted. This will be a phone call or via SKYPE between your marker and you. It is also an opportunity to clear up any questions you may have. These phone calls must be completed in a timely manner - after you are done all the module assignments, and before taking the module exam. There is a Student Outline provided to help you prepare for the interactive assessment.
Discussions
At various points throughout the course, you will have an Activity that will require you to respond to a discussion question in the Discussion area. The purpose of the discussion area is to engage in dialogue about a topic with your classmates. In order to do this, your original post should be one that encourages responses from your classmates. When posting your response, make sure you have addressed all of the questions. Always be sure to use proper netiquette and be respectful of other students. Failure to do so could result in a lower grade, the removal of your response, and a phone call to a parent or guardian. Your marker will read all of the postings in the discussion area and will post responses throughout each discussion thread.
Collaboration
Although you may sometimes feel as if you are a lone student working in the course, it is important to remember you are still part of a larger "learning community." There will be many opportunities for you to collaborate with and help your fellow classmates and be able to have deeper conversations concerning class issues in small groups.
Why collaborate in an online class you ask? Great question! The following overview will explain this in greater detail and even provide you with tips and guidelines for working together.
