6.05 En busca de empleo
We have already talked about some of the uses for the subjunctive mood. In this lesson we will continue with more of its uses. We have seen how to express wishes, desires, and requests with the subjunctive. Now, we will learn how to apply what we already know to express doubts, denial, uncertainty, and fear or emotions.
It all has to do with the subjunctive formula: [ S¹ + V¹ + que + S² + V² ] where verb 1 tries to influence verb 2. To express doubts, denial, uncertainty, and fear or emotions you need these type of verbs in the position of verb 1 and the subjunctive in verb 2. Let's take a look:

Vamos a ver otros ejemplos:

Here are some of the verbs that express doubts, denial, uncertainty, and fear or emotions.
dudar | to doubt |
lamentar | to regret |
negar | to deny |
no estar seguro | to not be sure |
sentir | to feel sorry |
temer | to fear |
tener miedo | to be afraid |
no creer | to not believe |
no pensar | to not think |
estar contento de | to be happy about |
Sometimes when the verbs are opposite to the doubts, denial, uncertainty, and emotions the indicative mood is used in the position of verb 2. Anything that is certain or factual will be expressed in the indicative mood, so if the verb in V¹ is the opposite of the verb for doubt (no dudar) then the verb in V² will be in the indicative mood. eamos unos ejemplos:
-
Mis amigos están seguros que yo puedo encontrar un buen empleo.
Mis padres creen que yo soy un hombre con muchas habilidades.
Here are some of the verbs that express the opposites of doubts, denial, uncertainty, and fear or emotions.
no dudar | to not doubt |
no negar | to not deny |
estar seguro | to be sure |
no temer | to not fear |
creer | to believe |
pensar | to think |
