The deep taproot of a dandelion plant is difficult to remove from the ground. Dandelion leaves are eaten by deer, rabbits, and even humans. When the stems, leaves, and flowers of dandelion plants are removed, the dandelions can grow new plants from any taproots remaining in the ground. The taproot is an adaptation that helps the dandelion to survive.
People depend on plants in many ways. We eat plants directly, and the animals we eat for meat ate plants. We rely on plants to put oxygen into the air, which our bodies need for cellular respiration. Also, we use plants for clothing and shelter.
Sustainable forestry is managing forests well to balance cutting trees and replanting trees to have forests for the future.
Forest fires clear forests of old, dead branches and trees so that new plants and trees can grow with lots of sunlight and space. New forests provide shelter and new food sources for other insects and animals.
