Several properties are important to consider in the design of a water bottle.

- Glide joints at the wrists let people move their hands in many directions to do activities such as write or play musical instruments.
- Pivot joints at the spine, neck, and hips allow people to turn their bodies in various directions.
Skin protects the body in many ways.
- Skin is a protective layer that stops harmful bacteria from entering the body.
- Skin prevents water from leaving the body, preventing dehydration.
- Skin controls body temperature so a person does not become too hot or cold.
- Pigments in the skin protect the body from the sun’s harmful UV rays.
