A bike helmet includes several safety features.
- A bike helmet has a hard exterior that resists cracking.
- The inside of a bike helmet has a thick layer of foam to absorb force instead of the head taking that force.

Modern electric or gas stoves have advantages over wood stoves.
- Modern stoves are easier to use. People can turn them on or off quickly rather than having to light a fire that remains hot for some time.
- Modern stoves are safer than wood stoves because only the burner and oven become hot as compared to the entire wood stove.
- Modern stoves heat only small areas; woods stoves released considerable heat into the kitchen, which was advantageous in winter but disadvantageous in summer.
Nylon and steel have several advantages over animal intestines as material for guitar strings.
(Disadvantages include the use of non-renewable versus renewable materials.)
- They do use animal parts; therefore, animals need not be killed to make nylon or steel guitar strings.
- Nylon and steel strings are stronger than intestine strings are, so they do not break as easily.
- Some musicians identify differences in tones produced; perhaps the modern strings are more consistent.
