Unit 1: Section 2: Canada's Federal Political System
Section 2 Summary
In Section 2, you answered this question: What is the structure of Canada's federal political system?
The federal political system in Canada is part of your everyday life although you may not see it directly. The decisions that are made by the federal government affect your identity, citizenship, and quality of life. From the decisions made by the prime minister and cabinet, the passing of a bill in the legislative assembly, or the protecting of Canadian rights in the Supreme Court of Canada, you are affected.
As a Grade 9 student, you may not yet be in a position to impact the federal government as a voter in elections. However, you have the opportunity to have an important voice in decision-making. This may happen by being a youth member of a political party, writing to a local media source, or participating in a lobby group.
You will use this knowledge of governance to understand the laws in Canada. In the next unit, you will continue to explore the laws of Canada as you investigate how Canada's justice system impacts you as a citizen.
