In Unit 1, you explored the following questions:

As you worked through this unit, you considered if, how, and when government can impact your life. You are beginning to understand that government makes political and economic decisions that influence you in many ways. These decisions impact what it means to be a citizen and affect your individual identity, your collective identity, and your quality of life.

Canada's political system ensures that decisions are made in the interests of all Canadian citizens. Many individuals and groups participate in this decision-making. Members of Parliament, senators, lobby and advocacy groups, media, and the citizens of Canada all have roles in Canada's political system. The three branches of government work together to ensure that Canada has laws that protect all citizens.

As you continue to study issues for Canadians, you will examine further the impact that both the government and the economy have on your citizenship, identity, and quality of life.
