Bitumen is a very viscous substance, which means it does not flow very quickly. Dissolving bitumen in other liquids makes it less viscous and able to flow through pipelines more quickly.
Object 1 has a higher density than Object 2 because it displaces a smaller volume of water. A mass in a smaller volume has a larger density.
Density is equal to mass divided by volume. Liquid 1 has a mass of 10 g in a volume of 2.0 mL, which equals a density of 5.0 g/mL. Liquid 2 has a mass of 50 g in a volume of 25 mL, which equals a density of 2.0 g/mL.
Liquid 2 has the smaller density, so it will float on top of Liquid 1.
Liquid 2 has the smaller density, so it will float on top of Liquid 1.
The objects in order from lowest density to highest density are 2, 1, and 3. Object 2 floated in both fresh and salt water, so it was less dense than both fluids. Object 1 floated in saltwater but not fresh water. Therefore, Object 1 was less dense than saltwater but more dense than fresh water. Object 3 did not float at all, so it was more dense than both fresh and saltwater.
Covering the opening of the garden hose decreases its area. As a result, the water pressure increases and it sprays further.
