Assignments - 40% of total score: Each unit has one or two assignments. Most are downloadable MS Word documents that you must download to your computer, complete, and then upload to the Assignment Dropbox. Others include multiple choice, short answer, and long answer questions that you complete online.
Discussion postings - 10% of total score: Ten discussion postings are required in this course. Be sure to respond thoughtfully to each and to respond respectfully to the postings of other students.
Unit Review Quizzes - 10% of total score unit: A unit review is provided at the end of each unit. These multiple-choice quizzes are scored immediately by the computer. After you have completed the first attempt, look at the quiz again. You will see feedback to each question. You may take the reviews a second time if you wish. Your mark is the average of the first and second attempts.
Supervised Exams - 40% of total score: This course has two supervised exams.

  1. Exam One (midterm) must be written immediately after you have have completed Units 1 to 4.
  2. Exam Two (the final exam) must be written after you have completed all eight units.

Reviews and self-tests help you prepare for each exam. These exams consist of multiple-choice questions and written responses similar to the provincial diploma exam for Social Studies 30-2.

... just in case ... If you fail either of these supervised exams, you may ask your teacher to write an appeal exam. Your teacher will work with you before you complete the appeal exam to help you succeed.

Marking Criteria: All assignments include scoring criteria or a rubric to show you how they will be marked. If you have any questions about the assignments, contact your teacher.
