How to submit your work to the Submission Page
- Select the appropriate Submission page for the lesson you have completed (Lesson 1-1 is first). This page says "Submission Status".
- Click "Add submission" button near the bottom of the page.
- Either click the moving blue arrow OR the white page with the folded corner and the + sign.
- Click "Choose File". Find the file from your Language Arts 9 folder (which should be on your Desktop).
- Click "Upload this file" (blue button). Click " Save Changes". Repeat to upload any additional files (oral work, images etc).
- Click " Submit Assignment".
- Click "Continue" after reading "Are you sure you want to submit your work for grading? You will not be able to make any more changes." and determining that you have included all parts of the assignment.
- When you see "Submitted for grading" in a green box, you have successfully submitted your file(s).

Check back in a few days to access your marked lesson and review it carefully, giving attention to the teacher's comments.

Please use the many resources available to you. This allows you to be more successful. However, the final product must be your own work in your own words or images. Plagiarism is not tolerated.
Deposit your completed assignment file into the appropriate Submission Dropbox immediately after you finish it.
If we do not receive your work, we cannot mark it.
Do not stockpile assignments. Submit them as soon as you complete them.

Rubrics
Rubrics and criteria are provided for every assignment to guide you in planning your responses. They tell you what your teacher expects in your work. The rubrics in this course mirror the ones used by Alberta Education on the Grade Nine Provincial Achievement Tests.There are TWO distinct rubrics that will be used. One is for Narrative/Essay writing and the other for Functional writing (business letters).
There will be five criteria for each response:
- Content- considers how effectively the student
- explores the topic
- establishes a purpose
- presents ideas
- supports the response
- considers the reader
- Organization - considers how effectively the writing demonstrates
- focus
- coherent order
- connections between events and/or details
- closure
- Sentence Structure - considers the extent to which
- sentence structure is controlled
- sentence type and sentence length are effective and varied
- sentence beginnings are varied
- Vocabulary - considers the
- accuracy of words and expression
- effectiveness of the words and expressions
- appropriateness and effectiveness of the voice/tone created by the student
- Conventions - considers the extent to which the student has control of
- mechanics (spelling, punctuation, capitalization, indentation for new speakers, etc) and usage (subject-verb agreement, pronoun-antecedent agreement, etc)
- clarity and flow of the response

- the purpose of the assignment is fulfilled with complete and relevant information
- the tone is appropriate for a business letter, and awareness of audience is evident
- Content Management - considers the extent to which
- words and expressions are used accurately and effectively
- sentence structure, usage and mechanics (spelling, punctuation etc) are controlled
- the formats of an envelope and a business letter are consistently applied
