You have been reading all kinds of texts for many years. Have you ever really thought about your journey as a reader?
What do you remember about learning to read?

At some point in your life, you learned to read. Since then, you have been reading all kinds of texts.
What do you remember about the experience of learning to read? Were you an excited child, enthusiastic to explore the world of letters? Or were you anxious because the lines and squiggles on the page did not seem to line up or make any sense? |
How you felt when you learned to read likely still has an effect on how you feel about reading today. The good news is that it really doesn't matter how you learned to read. What matters is what you do with your skills now.
Where are you on your reading journey?

Each of us has a unique relationship with language.
We each have individual experiences and interests that have influenced our journey as readers. Some of these will have been positive, and some may not. Regardless of what has happened already, we are now able to make decisions that can result in a positive
relationship with language from this point forward. This is a journey that we will be working on throughout the rest of this course.
To start, let's reflect on where we have been. At this time, please think about the following questions:
