Properly Documenting Sources

You must give credit to the author of the sources of information you use.
If you do not, you imply that the words or ideas of others are yours, which is plagiarismβ€”an ethical and copyright violation.  Account responsibly for the resources in your research report.

Bibliographies

Placed at the end of your report, a bibliography, or β€œ Works Cited” page,  using MLA style,  enables readers to consult your sources for further information.  It is important to gather this information as you are doing your research. Accuracy in a bibliography is especially important.

  • Step 1:  Use correct MLA format. To create this list and be sure that all necessary information is included, use a  bibliography maker such as one of these:
  • Step 2:  List the items in your bibliography alphabetically according to authors’ surnames. Do not number or letter the items in your bibliography.
  • Step 3: Edit punctuation and spelling in each resource item for accuracy.
