Self-Assessment: Answers for Identifying Purpose


Answers will vary. 

Tdentify a purpose for writing about each of the following topics, you might choose something like the following:

1. The park (to educate regarding the carelessness of people who litter; to explain its benefits; to describe the pleasures of the children who use the park; to examine how overcrowded it is etc.)

2. My trip (to explain how hard my parents worked to organize it, to describe significant parts of the country, to inform about the benefits of taking a vacation, to relate how to avoid accidents etc.)

3. Terry Fox (to educate regarding his accomplishments; to share his persistence, to celebrate his legacy etc.)

4. Sir Frederick Banting (to educate regarding his contributions to science; to celebrate and reflect on the effect of his Nobel Peace Prize on Canadians, to identify his effect on the timeline of treatment for diabetes etc.)

5. My cat’s anger (to explain why my room is so messy; to describe the bad effect of my cat on others; to reflect on the difficulties my cat has to overcome; to compare my cat with more well-behaved ones; to educate on the difficulties of owning a pet; to humorously relate a personal story)
