At the end of Unit 1, you should be able to answer the following questions.

- What characterized the societies and relationships of the First Nations, French, and British peoples in early Canada?
- What was imperialism?How did imperialism affect the societies of the Aboriginal and the Europeans?
- How did Aboriginal and European societies interact?
- Who were the first explorers of North America?
- Who were the key figures in the French and British exploration and settlement?
- What roles did the Aboriginal and European societies have in the fur trade?
- How did the various societies interact during the fur trade?
- How did the fur trade contribute to the foundations of the economy in North America?
You will be using the textbook, Voices and Visions: A Story of Canada.
