Practice Your Skills: Analyze Cause and Effect

Read

  1. Read page 76 of the textbook to learn about analyzing causes and effects.
      • Many causes and effects can lead to major changes in events – especially in history.

      • For example:

        • Cause: Canada had an abundance of beavers.
        • Effect: Canadian resources were considered very valuable by France and England in the 1700s.

      • You can develop a cause and effect chart for almost anything that happens in your life.

      • Think for a moment about your favourite hobby or sport.

Why did you decide you were interested in it (cause)?
How has your hobby or sport changed you or how has it affected your daily life (effect)?

  2. As you read this lesson and the next lessons, think about characteristics of the French fur trade, the characteristics of the English fur trade, and the characteristics common to them.

  3. Add your points to the Venn diagram.
