Chapter 5 Assessment

Turning Points in History

At the beginning of Chapter 5, you were asked to focus on the six major events that happened in Canada in the 1700s.

As you worked through the chapter, you were asked to record some key points for each event.

 Review the events you read about in Chapter 5 and the effects of these events on the future of Canada.
  1.  Choose one event from this period that you think had the greatest effect on the future of Canada.

     Choose from the following key events.

        • Deportation of the Acadians
        • Seven Years’ War
        • Battle of the Plains of Abraham
        • Treaty of Paris
        • Royal Proclamation
        • Quebec Act

  2. Your task is to create a product that does both of the following:

    • Describe your chosen event using the 5Ws (who, what, where, when, and why).  Be sure to answer the questions below.

      • What happened?
      • Who participated in the event? 
      • When did the event occur? 
      • Where did the event occur? 
      • Why did the event occur?

    • Explain why the event you have chosen had the greatest effect on Canada’s future. 

  3. Choose one of the following formats to present your information.
        • PowerPoint (Images and text are required.)
        • poster (Images and text are required.)
        • short composition (2 - 3 paragraphs)



Be sure your final product meets the following criteria.

  • You have answered the 5W questions in your presentation.

  • You have explained why the event chosen had the greatest effect on Canada's future.

  • PowerPoint presentations or posters include images and text.
