      • Answer the following questions in your Reading/Study Guide.

        • What do the objects in the painting (page 64) tell us about the abilities of these men?
        • What does the size and position of the tiny crucifix in the top let corner of the painting suggest about the young men's attitude towards religion?

Francesco Petrarch


Francesco Petrarch is called the "Father of Humanism" mostly because of his own writings but also for this discovery of Cicero's letters. (Cicero was an ancient Roman philosopher).
