Discover: Forces of Flight
The force of gravity pulls down on a flying object. Often, this force is referred to as weight. Lift is the force that pushes up against gravity so an object can float through the air.
As an object moves through the air, the movement of air particles push back against it causing drag. To keep moving, the flying object needs some way of producing thrust to keep pushing forward through the air.
Flying requires the careful consideration of how these forces act together to produce the desired movement.
