Lesson 2: Pricing - Getting Into It

Here are some items you will need for the following investigation:

  • newspapers/magazines
  • store catalogues/flyers
  • computer

In this activity, you will investigate promotions.

Task 1

Find two advertisements for promotions by:

  • looking in newspapers and magazines
  • looking in catalogues
  • searching online
  • going to a shopping centre
  • looking at billboards

Task 2

For the two promotions you chose, determine:
  1. If the promotion is eye catching. (Does it get your attention?)
  2. Whether the promotion offers a great deal without being misleading. (The deal is as good as it appears.)
  3. Whether the promotion offers a great deal, but might be misleading. (It might be tricking the customers to get them into the store or to make a purchase)

Points to Ponder

You may have concluded that it is difficult to figure out if a sale is a "good deal" because there are often factors other than sale price to consider or figure out.
