Key Ideas

  • The midpoint of a line is the halfway point.
  • The midpoint of a two-dimensional shape is the mathematical middle of the shape.
  • For 2D shapes with an even number of sides, connect the midpoints of opposing sides. The midpoint of the shape is where the lines intersect.
  • For 2D shapes with an odd number of sides, connect each vertex to the midpoint of the opposing side. The midpoint of the shape is where the lines intersect.
  • For 3D objects with an even number of faces, connect the midpoint of opposite faces. The midpoint of the object is where the lines intersect.
  • For 3D objects with an odd number of faces, connect the vertex to the midpoint of the opposite face. The midpoint of the object is where the lines intersect.
