Lesson 2: Area - Getting Into It
Getting into It
You may recall calculating area in your previous math studies. You may even recall some of the formulas used to calculate the area of different shapes. In this activity, you will manipulate shapes to create ones that are easier to work with.
Here is what you will need for the following investigation:
- Geogebra interactive
- activity sheet
- calculator
If the applet is not showing, or does not work, you may need to download Geogebra onto your computer. The software is free. Click here to download Geogebra.
Task
Use the applet below to complete the activity sheet.
Points to Ponder
In your investigation, you likely discovered that by doubling one of the dimensions in a rectangle, the area is also doubled.
And, if you tried doubling both the dimensions, you likely discovered that the area would be four times larger.
