In Math 10C, you spent time graphing linear relations, focusing on finding slope and the \(y\)-intercept. Using these two pieces of information, you defined a linear relation using an equation. Similarly, in investigating arithmetic sequences, you will gather information about the sequences in order to define a rule that describes them.

In Lesson 1.1, you will

  • provide and justify examples of arithmetic sequences,
  • identify assumptions made in the definition of an arithmetic sequence,
  • determine the general term of arithmetic sequence,
  • solve problems involving arithmetic sequences, and
  • connect arithmetic sequences to linear functions.
