Solving Systems of Linear Equations

In Math 10C, you spent time solving systems of equations. The skills you learned will be important throughout Math 20-1. At this point, you will review how to solve systems of equations using elimination.

Recall that a system of equations is used when there is a need to solve for more than one variable. As a rule, when solving for more than one unknown, the number of equations needed is equal to the number of unknowns. For now, the number of unknowns you will have in a problem will be two; therefore, you will need two equations with the same unknowns in order to solve the problem.
