Mathematical modelling is an entire field of mathematics that involves constructing algorithms that can be used to model real-life situations with a computer. This is, in essence, problem solving. Recall back to Unit 1; problem solving involves a series of methodical steps.

  1. If possible, start by drawing a diagram of the situation.
  2. Write down what is given in the question.
  3. Analyze what is given, and think of a plan of how to solve the problem.
  4. Solve the problem.
  5. Look over the solution and problem, and make sure it all makes sense.
