Calculating Reference Angles


To determine the reference angle of any angle in standard position, first determine the quadrant where the angle terminates, then use the appropriate formula.


Quadrant I
Quadrant III
\(\theta_R = \theta\) \(\theta_R = \theta - 180^\circ\)

\(\theta_R = 180^\circ - \theta\) \(\theta_R = 360^\circ - \theta\)
