Solving Trigonometric Equations


The general steps for solving trigonometric equations are:

Step 1: Determine in which quadrant(s) the solution(s) will lie.

Step 2: Determine the reference angle.

Step 3: Sketch the reference angle(s) in the appropriate quadrant(s), and then determine the angle(s) in standard position.
The same procedure can be followed when solving for an angle in standard position, given its approximate trigonometric ratio.
