Simplifying Fractions
Recall the definition of Rational Numbers from Unit 3: numbers that can be expressed as fractions of the form \(\frac{p}{q}\), where \(p\) and \(q\) are integers and \(q\) must not equal zero. Before diving into rational expressions, you must be confident with simplifying fractions.
There are two commonly used methods to simplify fractions. The first involves determining the greatest common factor (GCF). The second uses prime factorization. Examine both processes in the following examples.
