When applying for a passport, a person needs to include a photo of him or herself that has specific dimensions. It is unrealistic to expect everyone’s face measurements to be exactly the same, so the passport office will accept some variation. This allowable deviation from the ideal dimensions is called the tolerance. How might an absolute value equation represent the maximum and minimum acceptable dimensions used in a passport photo?
