Reader's Notebook

Reading Biographies

Think Like a Reader

Go to page 8 of your reader textbook,  Literacy in Action 5

Click each coloured row for information about the activity.

Look at the poster about Mitchell Shea.

Think and write about these questions:

  • What information can you see on this poster that tells you it is a biography?
  • Why might a person read this poster?

You can record your answers on the document, Reader's Notebook: Profiles of Respect: Mitchell Shea.

Before you read the poster, take time to predict, pause, and check.

  • Predict: Look at the title, headings, and pictures. What do you think this poster is about?
  • Pause and check: Read the first two sentences. Say them in your own words. What did you learn? Do you understand what you read? Were your predictions accurate?
You can record your answers once again on the document, Reader's Notebook: Profiles of Respect: Mitchell Shea.
