Identifying Systems
What is a System?
If you were going to eat a piece of pizza, what parts of your body would you use?
A system such as the digestive system is complex. That is, it is composed of many different connected parts.
The digestive system has parts for biting and chewing, swallowing, digesting, and removing food from the body.
Each part plays a special role. If one part fails to work, then another part may not work either. For example, if your teeth do not chew the food properly, the piece of food you swallow may be too large and you may choke. If you cannot get air into your lungs, what will happen?
Multiple parts can work in ways that the single parts cannot work alone.
To become familiar with the systems of the body, play the game All Systems Go. You will identify the digestive system, the circulatory system, the skeletal system, and the nervous system. If you click on More Information you will learn more about each body system. NOTE: This is a Flash based interactive, so it may not work on your computer. It is NOT compulsory, only helpful, if you can play it.
