Writers use word choice to create a certain mood in their story, usually one of suspense or uncertainty about what might happen. They also use different words and phrases to describe the setting, characters, and events. The way the story is written can make you feel scared, tense, anxious, nervous, uncertain, or excited while you are reading the story.
