News Article - Revising Your Work


Good writers revise their work to improve on their writing. They may change words or rewrite sentences to make their writing more interesting and clear.


In this activity you are going to revise your article.

Revision may include the following:

  • Reworking ideas to match the audience
  • Organizing information logically
  • Rewriting to create a consistent voice and point of view
  • Changing words and language to add interest
  • Using a variety of sentence types and lengths

These steps may help you revise your work:

  • Read your whole rough draft. Ask yourself: Does this report give my overall message? What will stand out for my readers?
  • Read each paragraph or section. Ask yourself: Does this make sense? Will it help my readers understand my ideas? Is there a better way to explain it?

Some tips on revision:

  • Read the report to a friend, parent, sibling, or teacher to see what they think of it and what they suggest for improvements.
  • Use arrows and symbols on your page to reorganize ideas.
  • Use a coloured pen, highlighting, or coloured text (in a Word document) to add specific vocabulary or details.
