Get Ready for Active Viewing!

When you began the unit, you likely watched films purely for the sake of enjoyment. Actively viewing the film you selected from the Approved Film List will deepen your understanding of the film and your appreciation of the efforts that went into its production.
As you watch a film, you will react to what you see and hear. Remember, active viewing requires you to think of how the director caused your reactions through the use of cinematic techniques. You will also speculate about why those choices were made.
Viewing Tips
Viewing a film actively can feel overwhelming, but . . .
- Remember, you can pause, rewind, and re-watch a scene as often as you wish.
- Ensure you set you media player so you can see the time stamps and subtitles while you watch.
- Have these course resources handy while you watch the film:
- Elements of Film Video
- your Elements of Film Handout (which you completed earlier in this module)
- Practice Film Observation Chart: Walter Mitty
