Alternate Assignment 1.4:  Whose Line Is It Anyway?

If you are completing this alternate assignment, it is because you need additional practice with analyzing poetry, or you have requested to complete this assignment because you struggled on assignment 1.4 and are hoping to improve your mark.  Your teacher must approve this alternate assignment before you proceed.

At this point in the unit, you have had several opportunities to analyze the poetry of others.  For this optional assignment, you will have the opportunity to apply what you have learned about poetic techniques to a poem (or song) of your own.

• Choose one text from an approved list of traditional and contemporary poems and songs.
  
  
• Identify the theme, tone, and three poetic techniques in the poem or song you have chosen using a chart provided to you.
  
  
• Compose an original ten-line poem or song that reflects the same theme, tone, and poetic techniques as the text you chose.
