Many charities are good causes. However, sometimes, fake charities try to take advantage of your generosity and compassion for others in need. You open an email and it reads: “Feed the starving children in Tranzinimbia. Send money for a good cause”. If you send the money, and later realize it was a con, you will feel cheated. If you had tried to locate Tranzinimbia on the map, you would have realized there is no such country.
You lost your money because you believed a lie. A strong emotional plea that requires immediate action may be a scam, or it may be the truth. To avoid being cheated, you must investigate the claims of the speaker.
