Unit 1

What is Courage?

Lesson 2

Think Like a Reader

Read About Real-Life Events

Today’s lesson involves an important skill: how to be a good reader. People who think about what they are reading, understand the message more clearly.

Read

Read the selection, Read About Real-Life Events on pages 8 and 9 of Literacy in Action 4A.

Information in Read About Real-Life Events advises you to do the following if you want to be a good reader:

  • think about what you are reading
  • ask yourself questions as you go along
  • make comments
  • make connections between events in the story
  • make inferences
  • make predictions about what might come next, and
  • interpret the pictures

This is what it means to think like a reader. A Reader doesn’t just say the words: a Reader involves him or herself in the story.
