This lesson includes your first Vocabulary Word Wall words
Each time you see the Vocabulary Word Wall icon, you know that you must learn to spell six Vocabulary Word Wall words.
Each time you get another list of six Word Wall Words, you must study them carefully. Knowing how to spell these most common words found in Grade 4 readings will increase your reading and writing ability. While reading, you will recognize the words right away and no decoding will be necessary, and you will write them without even thinking about the spelling, as you will know them so well.
Vocabulary Word Wall words are "no excuse" words. This means that once you have studied them in the lessons, you must spell them correctly in all your written work – no excuses! Remember, you will have a Word Wall assessment to complete at the end of the unit.

Get someone to test you on the spelling of the words before going on to new Vocabulary Word Wall words.
If you see new Vocabulary Word Wall words in a lesson before you have had someone test you on the last ones,
- stop
- take the Vocabulary Word Wall Test
- practise and take the test again if you made any spelling mistakes before you go on to the new ones.
Do not get behind on the Vocabulary Word Wall words. It is fairly easy to learn six at a time, but if you let them pile up, they may become very difficult to learn them. Remember as well that you will have an assessment to do on the words at the end of the unit.
