Unit 2

Get The Message!

Read

Read the cartoon strip on pages 58 to 61 of Literacy in Action 4A

As you read the story, pay close attention to the clues that the author gives:

  • Body language (facial expressions, body movement)
  • Signs on walls and paper
  • Speech bubbles (which are called captions)

 Reader's Notebook Assessment (Formative)

Check your predictions in your Reader's Notebook: Cartoon Strip.

Were your predictions about the messages he sees correct?

Open Your File

Go to your Documents folder and open your Types of Messages document.

Choose three different types of messages you found in the comic strip and add them to your table.

Complete all three columns:

  • The form of message (a sign, picture, symbol, etc.)
  • The message it is giving to the reader
  • The purpose of the message (explaining something, telling how to do something, asking something)
