Choose One of the Posters Below

Demonstrate your understanding of the author’s purpose in a visual in the following assessment.


  1. Choose one of the following posters for your examination:
      • KID Power, pages 64 & 65
      • Canada's SCREAM MACHINES, pages 66 & 67
      • TOTAL DISASTER!, pages 68 & 69

  1. Use the "Author's Purpose" reading strategy on the previous page to complete the Reader’s Notebook: Author’s Purpose worksheet.
      • Download and save the Reader's Notebook: Author’s Purpose file to your computer.
      • Enter the title of your chosen poster.
      • Write your idea of the author’s purpose (Persuade, Inform, or Entertain) in the Author’s Purpose section.
      • Identify three pieces of evidence in the poster that support your idea about the author’s purpose.

Open Your File

Go to your Documents folder and open your Types of Messages that you have saved there.

Under Form, include “Poster”, then enter information under Message and Purpose.

Remember to save your work!  


Save

How to save a file for submission:


  1. Have the file open and select Save As from the File menu.
  2. Select your Documents folder as the location to Save In.
  3. Name the document. You will always name your documents in a similar way.
      • Use the first letter of your first name, followed by your last name, then an underscore (_), then the name of the file.
      • In this case, the file name is Reader’s Notebook: Author’s Purpose. For example, if my name is John Smith, I would name my file jsmith_authorspurpose.

  4. Click Save. Your chart is in your Documents folder.

  2. However, your teacher may ask you to submit this worksheet to check on your progress so be sure to save it in your Documents folder.
