Unit 3 Introduction
Welcome To Unit 3 - Survivors!
In unit 3, you will be concentrating on reading science related materials.
In this unit, you will read many informational texts. Your focus will be on how to read informational text, asking questions before and after you read, making use of prior knowledge (what you already know about the subject of your readings), and summarizing. You will learn about how explanations are written, and how visual features help with comprehension. You also will be doing some research, and be learning research skills along the way.
You will work with graphic organizers, and do some word study with synonyms, word structures, and compound words.
As this unit is about reading in science, most of the readings are non-fiction. This unit is all about animal habitats, and the things people are doing to try to look after them.
