Look on page 130 of Literacy in Action. You see a big picture under the title that should give you some clues as to what kind of park it is. You find two sections on this page. The first is An Island Park.

Think about the questions as you read this section:

  1. What makes the park different from other parks?
  2. How would you describe this park?

The next section is called Location. Think about these questions as you read this section:

  1. Where is the park located?
  2. What other places is it close to?

Look on page 131 of Literacy in Action.

There you see another couple of pictures. Read the top section Wildlife and think about these questions:

  1. What wildlife might I find there?
  2. Can I find the same wildlife everywhere in the park?

The last section is called Origin.

Think about these questions as you read:

  1. How did this park get started?
  2. How did the park get it's name?
  3. What is unique about the park?

Use answers to these questions to guide your responses to help you summarize each section.

The organizer is made of four parts:

  • Location: type at least two facts you learned in this section in this part of the organizer.
  • Nature: type at least two facts you learned in this section in this part of the organizer.
