    • PARENTS MUST SIGN AN EXEMPTION LETTER AND SEND IT TO MS. SLIWINSKI IF STUDENTS ARE TO BE EXEMPT FROM DOING THE ASSIGNMENTS FOR THE HUMAN SEXUALITY UNIT (UNIT 5).

      IF A SIGNED LETTER IS NOT RECEIVED THEN STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO COMPLETE ALL 5 ASSIGNMENTS FOR UNIT 5 AS OUTLINED IN THE COURSE.

    • The Grade 9 Health course includes subject matter that deals primarily and explicitly with human sexuality. Instruction will be provided through reading materials and written assignments in the online course.

      All topics are from the Alberta Program of Studies and are:

      • Science-based and free of bias
      • Inclusive of personal, family, and social values
      • Respectful of individual differences, self-worth, and dignity
      • Provided in a supportive environment for students to learn and ask questions
      • Age-appropriate

      The subject matter is contained in the following areas:

      W-9.3 Apply coping strategies when experiencing different rates of physical, emotional, sexual and social development; e.g., positive self-talk

      W-9.7 Evaluate implications and consequences of sexual assault on a victim and those associated with that victim

      W-9.12 Determine “safer” sex practices; e.g., communicate with partner, maintain abstinence, limit partners, access/use condoms/contraceptives properly

      W-9.13 Identify and describe the responsibilities and resources associated with pregnancy and parenting

      W-9.14 Develop strategies that address factors to prevent or reduce sexual risk; e.g., abstain from drugs and alcohol, date in groups, use assertive behaviour

      Pursuant to section 11.1(2) of the Alberta Human Rights Act, a parent/guardian may request that their child be exempted from the above-identified instruction, or be exempted from a specific component of the course, without academic penalty. If your child is exempted, they will not be required to read or complete the human sexuality unit, and will receive no academic penalty. There will be no alternate readings or assignment required.

      In order to exercise this option, you must send a signed copy of the following Student Exemption Request letter to the instructor declaring your intentions. If this letter is not received by MARCH 10th, 2019, the instructor will expect the student to complete the human sexuality unit as outlined in the course.

    • Final Weeks- May 21 to - June 18 is designated for 'catch-up' on assignments big grin  OR for resubmitting previous assignments in order to achieve an improved grade. surprise
