Completion requirements
Writing
In the last assignment, you probably noticed how Timothy Findley shares his personal feelings about memories. He expresses his active role in the process where he relives his memories. On p.
65
, he says, “That remembrance is the rhythm of my life. So memory is other people – it is little of ourselves.”
In this assignment, you will write a
diary entry
in which you consider an experience, either positive or negative, for which you are grateful. How has the experience shaped the person you are today? Close your entry by connecting to Timothy Findley’s essay. Has considering his ideas influenced how you
think about your own memories?

Gratitude is a large part of reliving and learning from our memories. In most cases, we connect feelings of gratitude when we remember people and experiences fondly. If our experiences are negative, we have to reflect on what we learn from these experiences
if we are to feel grateful.
Writing to ourselves allows us to reflect and to think about why we do what we do and how we feel about what is happening in our lives. Diary entries are a simple way for us to work through this process.
