5.1.6 Viability of Liberalism Assignment
Completion requirements
Canada and the United States were settled by Europeans with ethnocentric attitudes that shaped their political and economic systems. The Eurocentric view did not reflect the ideological perspectives of the Indigenous inhabitants. As a result, the voices of First Peoples were largely ignored and the political, economic, and social systems that had served the Aboriginal peoples were damaged.
In other parts of the world today, powerful nations try to impose liberal values and institutions on people who may not share these views. Attempts to establish new political and economic systems that represent the will of the people have been met with varying degrees of success.
