ELA3105-ABED_1: 4.2 Film CRT: Thesis (FORMATIVE)

You will compose a thesis statement that you will later use for your 4.3 Critical Response to Text (CRT) assignment.

Step 1	Choose 1 topic to discuss in a critical response to your film: Discuss the ideas developed by the text creator in your film about the ways in which an individual’s resilience is shaped by crisis. Discuss the ideas developed by the text creator in your film about the ways in which an individual’s integrity is shaped by his or her perception of success. Discuss the ideas developed by the text creator in your film about the way an individual responds to an event plays a significant role in shaping his/her future. Discuss the ideas developed by the text creator in your film about the ways in which perseverance plays a significant role in overcoming obstacles and shaping a character’s transformation.
Step 2	Choose a planning document from Document Links. As you write your thesis, keep in mind that you will be writing an essay for 4.3 and will use your 4.2 thesis. For 4.3 You will focus on a character in your film and his or her response in relation to your topic. You must refer to specific film techniques used within the film and their effectiveness in developing your chosen topic. Your thesis is your controlling idea or your roadmap. It's usually one sentence that summarizes your main idea about the topic. A strong thesis will help you stay on track when you write the essay. You must be able to "prove" or "defend" your thesis by providing appropriate, relevant, and meaningful examples from your chosen film.
Step 3	Submit your 4.2 thesis as a PDF or MS Word file for formative feedback and wait for approval before you continue to work on your 4.3 essay outline and draft.
