It can be daunting to remember all of the important information you read, especially in a novel, which is often several hundred pages long.

Using active reading strategies such as the 2.7 Novel Tracking Sheet will help you keep track of information such as key characters, theme, and other important details. Completing this tracking sheet thoroughly and accurately will help you a great deal when you complete essays, assignments, and tests later in the course and when you need to recall details from the novel.

Follow each of these steps, in order, to complete your assignment as you read the novel.

Step 1: Before you begin reading the novel and completing this tracking sheet, examine the rubric to see how your assignment will be assessed.

Step 2: Read Tyrone’s 2.7 Tracking Sheet. Pay attention to how much detail he included on his tracking sheet and the kinds of comments he received from his teacher on the rubric.

Note: Tyrone tracked a short story on his tracking sheet, but you are required to track your novel.

Step 3: Download the 2.7 Novel Tracking Sheet (in Word, Google doc , or PDF). Complete as much of the chart as you can while you read to prevent you from having to search the entire novel for what you need after you have read it. Remember that your large sticky notes will be used to complete this chart.

Step 4: Review what you learned about transformation earlier in this unit. It will help you complete this assignment.
