Assignment
There are three assignments for this lesson:
- make a new entry in your Saving Habitat Chart
- start on your next list of Word Wall Words
- write captions for some photographs
Make an entry in your Saving Habitat Chart.
Open Your File
Go to your Documents folder and open your Saving Habitat Chart that you have saved there.
- Make an entry for the Polar Bears story, remember to include the name of the story, what the habitat problem is, and what you think people might be able to do about it.
- Donβt forget to save your work.
Save
How to save a file:
- Have the file open and select Save As from the File menu.
- Name your Saving Habitat Chart file in this format: jsmith_savinghabitatpolarbears and save the file to your Documents folder.
Go to the Word Wall Words chart to get your new Word Wall Words.

Writing Captions
You are going to write captions for the photos of habitats in the Story Board Poster.
The photos were all taken in the same habitat.

Imagine that you are a book publisher, and these pictures are going into a book about habitats β what information should be included under each picture in your book?
Type a caption for each picture in the space under each photo. Think about the following questions as you create your sentences.
- What kind of habitat is this?
- What is happening in the picture?
- Does the picture show a way the animal has adapted to the habitat?
- Can you use any of the new vocabulary words you learned on page 117 of Literacy in Action 4A?
- Does the picture show why the wild life needs the habitat?
- Do you see any conservation messages?

- Name your Poster file in this format: jsmith_writingcaptions and save the file to your Documents folder.
Throughout the unit, you learned and practiced new concepts and presentation formats. Now it's time to demonstrate or "sum up" your understanding of that information by submitting this assignment for a mark.
- Submit your Writing Captions worksheet to your teacher for marking.
- Click Add Submission to upload your document.
